Default Transmission pan gasket

In the middle of transmission fluid replacement. Drained fluid and removed 18 bolts from pan. However, the pan gasket is "baked" on, and I am unable to drop the pan. I don't want to try prying it off with flat-head, and nicking or denting pan edge.....could cause future leak. Knife edge also won't work & I tried tapping it with rubber mallet to loosen. Any other ideas???

Talking Transmission pan gasket

Cancel previous ?- gave it a little "heavier" tap & it did a nice dive into the drain pan 1/2 full of old fluid. Judges counted off for the entry splash though.

That's why I always leave a couple of opposing bolts in a couple of turns when trying to get the pan to break loose. Don't you know tranny pans spend their life waiting for that opportunity. Life is all about living and learning isn't it?

i had the same problem, i used a tiny tiny flathead to come in on the pan from the wheel well and that broke the seal

Default Trans. pan

114: Not too bad- looked like a cross between the new red cough syrup & the proverbial chocolate. Magnets looked like a layer of silver sludge with only 1 small piece of metal. Glad I changed it- probably long overdue. Shifts like a dream now.

The silver sludge is a common site. I have even seen it after doing a very odd opening of the pan two weeks after I did my first of three drain and fills, but I figure there is a lot in the system to get out.
