There is an easy solution to the ATF fluid leveling and it is simple. I always keep some empty quart bottles after last oil or ATF change.
Before drain check ATF level according to the service manual.
Drain ATF into pan or bucket, close the drain plug. For clean up and disposal use funnel and fill your drained ATF into empty quart bottles about 90% full. See how money quarts you took out and put just as many quarts of new ATF back in thru the stick opening, go slow, I usually insert the funnel tip into the dipstick opening and tape around.
IDEA: amount out = amount in
Your level will be almost perfect and you may only require small adjustment.
Pan holds roughly about half of your total ATF so you are only changing half of the fluid and the minute you start driving remaining ATF will start mixing with new fluid giving you 50% cleaner ATF overall. If ATF is dirty or burnt you should consider another change to go 75% clean or even 2 changes to go higher. Always drive few hundred miles before your next change to allow ATF to mix well. Under normal driving conditions one change every 2 years will keep your ATF in good condition overall.
Since you are mixing old and new fluid it is recommended to stick with one brand ATF.

It may be too late for Mut, but for future reference make sure that when welding anything that has electronics, connect the negative or ground as close to the place being welded as possible. In the case of the exhaust manifold, if the ground is connected to the frame or the engine, you run the risk of the "surges" produced during welding, screwing up some of the electronics in the car. Placing the ground close to the area being welded, keeps the "juice" localized and not traveling through the vehicle.
