Default Best replacement speaker

I have to take my daughters front door panels off to fix her locking actuators. I figured that I would go ahead and change out her front speakers while the panels were off. What is the best speaker? I have read about getting some components... but I'd rather just easily replace the speaker with an aftermarket. Any suggestions? How about the tweeters? Do they just pop off to replace? This is for a 2001 RX with nav.. but just premium sound.

Is there a problem with the existing speakers? For systems such as this, just replacing the door woofers may throw the sound balance off.

I've never been able to figure out how those dask-top tweeters come out!

One of them sounds blown... beginning to hear the crackle. I did find that I can just pop the tweeter off. I have been reading a lot of the archives... but alot of them dealt with changing the system. I just wanted to upgrade the speakers. Typically going to an aftermarket sounds better. I noticed the Apline R series will fit via crutchfield. I thought since both front door panels are going to be off... it might be worth throwing in $100 to buy some new speakers... especially since I am doing the $15 mod to the door actuators.

My experience has been that the cheaper Kenwood speakers have been the best match for OEM system when you're just changing the speakers - sound balance, efficiency and power handling. I tried the newer infinity 6.5" and they just didn't deliver much bass (?)

Nice thing about Crutchfield is that you can return them if you're very careful with the install.

I don't know details about the speakers, but Crutchfield does have great people to help you decide. I recommend them!

I installed boston acoustics s60 components for front and rear speakers. They sound great!! I chose these because the crossover that comes with the components actually fit inside underneath the tweeter (theres quite a deep hole under the tweeter opening). I did have to leave the top off the crossover but they fit! Also the tweeter is not the 1" its a 3/4" tweeter so it fitted perfectly inside the factory housing with some double sided tape for the metal bracket and voila!

How's the bass? And was this a direct screw-in replacement or did you have to use an adapter? Also, what did you do with the rear tweeters?
