Cool Unknown beeping noise from rear

Hi

I've had my RX300 for over a year now and it is rock solid!

However, in the past few days a beeping noise has started in the rear/trunk area. Its probably a faulty electric circuit but thought I'd ask here anyway.

The noise seems to come from the area around the passenger area in the boot/trunk. It startes when you press the key to open the car and only goes off when you indicate left! If you indicate any other way it goes back on. Quite unusual but driving me nuts.

If I leave the car and lock it using the key, the been is there. If I lock the car using th key in the drivers door, then the beep stops.

I did mnotice both rear fog lights were not working, but discovered that both light buls had been disconnected. Reconected them both (they are working) but the noise remains.

Help

Anyone any ideas?

Alan

Welcome to ClubLexus.

A few questions: (1) what do you mean by "indicate left"? (wheels turned left, turn signal indicating left turn?); (2) what do you mean by "rear fog lights"?

The US model has no beep sounder in the trunk/rear-passenger area.

I suspect there is an after-market add on (reverse gear sounder). Eurpeon model may be different and if had been bone stock US model, I would have said that a pager or a phone has been dropped/lost in the trunk .... but that still does not explain the correlation with electrical activity.

Check to make sure all the rear bulbs are the proper ones. It sounds to me like someone added one of those special bulbs that beep when you back up and it is not working as it should.

Watch the movie "Class Action" with Gene Hackman.......... and then don't make any left turns!

Seriously, though, I'd call your friendly Lexus dealer and ask if you have a backup beeper which could be the cause, along with an electrical malfunction. There is a "lamp failure module" in the back of US Lexus RX300s. No idea what it does but if something's out of whack with the lights (including turn signals), who knows???
