New versus 4K old transmission filter. The old one was bought from Car Quest, the new one I got from Lexus on special order. They swore it was going to be a metal strainer that would ship.

Last picture: Here is what the filter looks like on the inside. After not getting the promised metal filter from Lexus, I took my frustrations out on the old filter and busted it open. The filter was free of any debris.

The transmission fluid has about 4K on it with the Auto-RX going in 1K ago. During the change 4K ago, the pan, magnets, were cleaned and filter changed. During this time I changed to Amsoil ATF.

I have to thank Lexmex for the ideas on fluids, oil etc here. Of all the things I've done to this RX, I must say: The Royal Purple gear lube has been the most noticeable, especially on acceleration.

Below are the pics!
w/regards to improvements in acceleration... as in faster, or smoother, or...?

right now i've only had a drain and fill done on the transmission, w/o opening it up. it's only been 2k mi since that was done and the fluid is dirty again . the private mechanic wanted to do the rear diff also, but found that the drain plug hex pattern has been stripped by the dealer mechanic i last went to. it was too late in the day so he didn't want to risk making it worse and told me it would have to be done at the next service when he has more time and a new plug on standby.

right now with the really cold weather we've been having, it tends to hang in 3rd gear before going to 4th, and it seems to be a long pause between 1st and 2nd on acceleration. i've been using the snow mode in the traction control frequently however.

The improvements were from the Royal Purple in the rear diff and transfer case. There is a noticeable improvement in acceleration....smoother, and effortless. I've also noticed an improvement in MPG with the stuff.

Thats the RP Max gear right blue? Doesnt it say something about limited slip differential on the bottle?

do you get less mechanical drag? as in when you lift off the throttle? when i do that the car actually starts decelerating to the point i'm saving $$$ in brake pads

I know when I ran the RP,it coasted so much better than the Amsoil (which is in mine now) In my personal opinion, Amsoil is way overrated. I thought the bottles of RP that I used didnt say anything about limited slip. So I called Rp,and the tech stated they only make it with ls additives, and that it wont harm a non-ls diff.

Agreed Lexus114, I haven't filled with ATF yet....That was coming today. I'm seriously thinking of the Royal Purple ATF after seeing what their gear lube did.

As far as Limited Slip on the RP bottle, the RP Max complies with API GL-5 which is required in our rear diffs and transfer cases.

Blue, make sure the RP Max atf states multi spec formula on the bottle. That is type IV compatable ( the latest formula). The old formula states dexron/mercon on the bottle. Did your Max gear bottle have the LS (limited slip) compatable on the bottle?

RP Max Gear lube just stated complies with API GL-5. I live a block from an O'Reilly's so I may opt for the RP ATF. They have the Multi Specific.

Good, that`s the stuff you want. All I can get here is the old formula Dexron/Mercon

Well, I as of yesterday I would have said it was pretty clean. Until someone at O'Reilly's mixed in a RP 20W-50 engine oil to my order and I was dumb enough not to check every one!

Luckily it was after I purged the return line and just adding extra to the pan. I noticed how slow it was pouring in and stopped it, still have to drop the pan and clean it out. Hopefully it didn't get into the filter.

Ah man...sorry to hear about that. I hate when snafu's happen.

Still if you did get the OEM metal mesh filter, you should be able to just clean it
