Default 2000 RX300 2WD Stalled & Shut down

My 2000 RX300 with 85k stalled and shut down twice. Can some one tell me what do I need to do to correct the problem? Could it be dirty fuel filter or fuel pump problem? Please help...Thanks.

Cleaning the IAC valve would be a good place to start. No codes?

Thanks, will diagnose and clean the valve. You don't think because of the fuel filter is dirty ?

Nobody can say the fuel filter is bad unless you do the flow and pressure test.

I would say, the fuel pump failure has higher probability than fuel filter being bad. The probability of spark problem is higher than the fuel problem (specially if you have fueled your RX in USA and from major gas supplier)

When you say shut down .. can you elaborate ... goes it sputter when you push down the throttle?

When the engine fails to run you need to isolate the basic reason, fuel, air and spark.

Well, I was the light and the rpm went up & down and then die. I restart and drove again and it's fine.

Try pushing the RX by staying on the pedal .. if it accelerates and sustains, then you can eliminate fuel delivery issues (pump, filter, lines, injector) and also the spark and air.

Since it died at a stop, the problem seems to be due to idle (IACV) or some sensor making the ecu to do things to stall the engine.

Have the codes read (even when the light is off ... in case there are pending codes). You can clean out the IACV as there may be gum building up (preemptive is fine).

hey guys i am having the same problem only my car does not shut down...the RPM just goes up and down like it it has the need for speed lol... Before this problem i used to the the check transmission oil temperature problem and the car would not move and the engine felt low of power. But that got fixed after i shut down and restart my car...

Now i have the same problem. If i stop at a red light my rpm sometimes starts jumping... So do you think i should start of with IAC valve aswell?

jishan, try that, and also clean your maf sensor. Then reset your ecm,see if that clears it up for you. btw,is your engine light on? if so,check the codes first.

Probably, does it smooth out if you crack the throttle open?

My 2000 RX300 had a similar problem on two separate occasions. At 62,000 miles, the mass air flow meter was replaced and at 69,000 miles, my independent mechanic cleaned the IACV. The vehicle currently has about 97,000 miles on it, runs flawlessly and has been essentially maintenance-free.
