Timing Belt Jumping/Stretching??
I keep seeing guys talking about it. I'm sure plenty have screwed up and been a tooth off after replacing one, but can anyone confirm an actual jumped tooth or codes that came from a stretched belt that went away when the belt was replaced?
I'm talking about these cars only, not somebody's Datsun from 25 years ago.
I keep thinking it is like the dogs die from drinking antifreeze thing. Sure it could happen, but do you know anybody that knows anybody that knows anybody whose dog died (or jumped a tooth)?

Skipping the tooth, yeah, I think we've had a few cases recently within the last year, but most that I recall offhand were issues that cropped up after installation of a new timing belt and codes inevitably turned up. I don't remember one from a stretched belt.

That's kind of where I'm going with this. An incorrect install is something that happens, but skipping a tooth or a stretched belt as a diagnosis for a car that was fine and now runs like crap or won't start seems way out there to me. Not saying that it can't happen, but so rare that you might as well start throwing other obscure things into the mix.
No dogs? I figured I would throw that out there and Lexmex would be saying that in Mexico dogs are always getting into pans of antifreeze.
