Default Transmisson for awd 2000 and 2002 same?

I was wondering if the transmisson for awd 2000 and 2002 are the same? I got a price quote for awd 2002 transmisson( 65k mileages) for $ 2000.00. Is it right price?

1999 through 2002 has the same trans. $2000 sounds like a fair price for a 2002 trans with 65K. Does it include install and any kind of warranty?

No install but six months warranty only.

Still sounds like a fair price. Are you installing it yourself or will you be paying for install? What if it fails during the warranty period and you need to return it for another? If a trans install is an easy thing for you or someone is doing it cheap enough then this may be a good way to go. For me it would be a hassle. You may want to look at what local shops will charge to rebuild yours with warranty and decide what is right for you. It cost me $3400 to have my 2001 rebuilt with a 2 year 24K warranty.

Some people say the transmission was changed in 01 or 02, other say it stayed the same. There's a debate about it in the other Lexus forum
http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...3&st=0&start=0

and while the documentation seems light there seems to be enough evidence of a change in something (IMHO) to warrant a call to Lexus (or someone who actually knows) just to be sure before you drop any serious dough on it.

I have read through countless posts and info on LOC, and I really think they changed "something" from late 2001 to 2003, the number of failures in 2002 + is very little compared to 99-00. I personally know 3 people with 2002 RX's AWD that all have over 100k with no problems, I myself have 94k without any problems.

While I am of the mind that something did change at some point, 3-4 people is too small a sample to draw a conclusion from. I have a 00 and 120k mi (knock wood) no problems. A friend has over 160k mi on his 99 and no problems, yet I truly believe there are problems lurking in both our trannys. What will bring them out, who knows.

I have no personal knowledge as to internal changes in those years but I do know that I have read that they did a few "tricks" through the PCM. Which means they had to go to "drive by wire" along in that time period. My wife's '02 Camry has "drive by wire" so I'm assuming Lexus had gone to it by then also. That opens up a whole new world of power management possibilities. I read that they retard the spark and reduce the power just enough to take some of the pressure of the bands and clutches at shift point but not enough for you to notice it. I'm not sure what else they may have done through the PCM, but they can perform magic through it, which you couldn't do with the cable throttle.

RX had throttle cable until 2004 when the 330 came along.

Do you mean didn't have drive-by-wire until the 330?
