Timing Belt?
Hey Everyone -
First off, I want to say what a valuable source of information this board has been for me. I have been struggling with CEL's, codes, O2, AF sensors for a while now. I have been taking my 2000 RX300 to a reputable Toyota specialist indie who has replaced the cam sensor (twice) and the O2 sensor (bank one) and has not been able to fix my problems. Almost $1,000.00 and no relief - Now it is my turn...
I purchased a code reader on the advice I read from Lexmex, read the codes 1130, 1135 and 1346. Based on the advice from this forum, I pulled the bank one sensor one AF sensor, checked the resistance and diagnosed an open in the heater element. I went to the Toyota dealer and purchased the sensor and just installed it. I cleared the codes and after starting it I have a pending 0300 and still 1346 (pending). I have not had the chance to drive the obligatory 25-50 miles yet to see if it "sets".
Two questions: does this sound like the timing belt may need to be replaced? If so, is this a job for a fairly qualified DIY - type person. I have done the timing belt on my Mitsubishi 3000GT (interference-type engine) and usually do all the work on my other cars.
Okay, third question - have any of you all done this and can I get a list of special tools needed and any "gotchas" I need to look for?
Thanks in advance for any advice and thanks for making this board such a terrific reference.

Plenty of help here concerning the timing belt, both in a search and also from members but like Lex said put that on the back burner for a few minutes.

I had mine done at Towne Toyota (Ledgewood, NJ) for about $320. It was something like $399 regular price minus a coupon. You may want to check James Toyota which is closer for you. They should have similiar deals.

Sometimes a stretched belt on these things will throw up a code, seem`s if you listen hard enough, you can hear the RX talk to you.If your in tune with your RX,you will see tell tale signs of things.

Thanks for all the replies. My wife ran it for 80 miles on Chevron Premium (93 I think) yesterday and I checked this morning - 0 Codes! I'll keep my fingers crossed. Now I have to tackle the right headlight that is not working (already checked the lamp). I'll do some searching and see what I can come up with.
Many thanks!
