Yet another tranny failure

I bought my 2000 RX300 AWD back in November of 1999. It now has 198,000 miles and continues to run on the original transmission. I got all major services done at the dealer and oil is changed every 5,000 miles. I might be just lucky, but I bet there are many other RX's out there doing the same as mine. I hope I get many more miles out of the car before it dies.

My "01 tranny was dying out at 160,000 miles. I went to the dealer for a quote and it came to $4600. With tax, the total rounded out to about $5K. Luckily, I knew of a family friend who was a tranny specialist and he did the job for about $2750 and the cars been running like a dream again. I guess the 2010 RX350 will have to wait just a lil while longer.
Can your family friend tell us about the failure he saw. We want to hear about broken and failed parts and were they replaced by identical parts. We as a group should build our data base.

I use cheap 5W-30 regular oil and usually a Fram filter. I have had the typical problems that most RX300's encounter but I have never been stranded and the worst thing to happen so far was the annoying IAC issue.

He said it was burned out and I know he used original Toyota/Lexus parts to replace it.
