Default Help! Low groaning sound. What could it be?

2002 Rx 300.Don't know much about cars. A low groaning sound has recently started. It becomes audible around 30mph and continues on up. doesn't seem to be coming from a particular area, but if I had to guess, I'd say rear rather than front.

Had tranny fluid flush about 5,000 miles ago. Newish tires. 62,000 miles on car.

Runs perfectly otherwise.

any ideas?

one way i found i could better tell where the sound was coming from was to drive down a narrow street and alternate opening windows and listening, then comparing the sounds i heard, i was able to diagnose a bad bearing in the left front wheel on my old car when i was in college that way. Another useful clue would be if it stays constant with the rotation of the tire (aka speed) when you let off the gas, also is there any change when you hit the brakes?

Default Low freqency sound cont...

2002 65k miles. at idle when cold I hear a ELFrequency sound, a single groaning note. after about 2 miles of driving I start hearing a low hum/groan, which doesn't go away when i lift my foot off the accelerator. not real loud, but i know what it used to sound like, like a Lexus!

using logic the first sound might be a bad muffler?, but the second sound (connected?) sounds like wheels or perhaps berrings. I'm only guessing, you guys know cars way better than me.

can anyone give me any other possibilities?

thanks in advance

Drive it down a road with some curves where you can go 30-40 mph. See if you can make the sound louder/quieter by loading and unloading a wheel bearing. You can even do it in neutral. I'm with lexus114, most of my groans have been wheel bearings. As they get worse you will know for sure. Just swerve to load up the bad bearing and you will know all about it.

thats what i thought at first as well but every bearing issue i ever had was more like a fum fum fum sound rather than a constant sound

1111art, is more of a constant sound or more like fum fum fum, like if you were to mark a spot on the tire where the sound is and every time that spot would hit the ground lets say it would make the noise? (just trying to better explain the sound)

she was bringing to much attention to me here.I kinda like being the way it is now,I don`t like to draw attention to myself like that.Though, the cat with his paw`s up in the air with the pistol aimed at him was cute.
