Unhappy Anyone had problem with their front and rear structs?

Had my front structs replaced 3 times due to defects. It was making squeeking noise when over bumps like speed bumps.
Wonder if anyone had the same problem.

There has been an acknowledged (as in, I believe there's now a TSB on it) problem with the rear strut mounts which leads to a sort of thumping/rattle. The rear struts were also replaced. Squeaking over bumps, esp things like speed humps or bumps suggests sway bar bushings (another problem area for Toyota/Lexus) to me.

But I've not heard of lots of front strut problems; ours are OK at 42k.

I had my rear struts replaced, under warranty. The vehicle was experiencing thumping noise when going over bumps. This is on the Technical Service Bulletin.

Hope that helps.

Default my struts went bad...

I took my '99 RX in after hearing noises coming from the front and suspected the struts. Sure enough the strut mounts need to be replaced. I was told by my dealership that the parts are on backorder and will take about a week to come in. I'll let everyone know how it goes... I mentioned noise coming from the rear (a high pitched squeak) but the service tech never indicated if those struts were under the same or similar TSB. I looked at Alldata and they, too, didn't seem to indicate rear struts on a TSB. hmmm.

My front struts were fine, it was the rear ones that I had problem with. It's basically the same issue, bad struts. If you are experiencing the problem, and if the technician can duplicate the problem, they should replace them under the warranty.

Default update...

Dealer's ordering new strut supports for the front and sway bar bushings for the rears... So, I'll wait til they arrive - hopefully, they'll have a loaner for me when I take the RX back to complete the repairs.

I think I have the same problem as you guys do. What exactly is a strut mount? I've been looking at parts catalogs and can't find the exact item. Is it one of the following items:
Mount plate
Spring
Stopper
Strut
Support
Top nut
Upper seat

thanks.

The front strut mounts specifically on earlier RX's is of marginal quality.

Check out this link where Ederny suggests spraying some WD40 or similar in the upper area of mount to help eleviate problem.
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/rx300h...rut_squeak.htm

Tried to get mine addressed under warranty but Lexus said its a known defect and would happen again shortly after repair....

Sounds to me like design flaw...

Rumour has it that, if there is a complaint history while under warranty by owner, on some rare cases Lexus has honoured having them replaced even out of warranty.

What ederny described sure does work. Best bet is first to take it to your favorite car wash or just spray in the area yourself. Let it dry then spray on the WD-40.

The things that really do get 'eaten' are the lower rubber supports.

The front ones die quick and we glued them in with the new ones so they would not move around.

Yes, you do need to take off the springs and this would be a major PITA DIY with or without the right tools.
