what is the CCA rating of the original battery that came with the 2001 RX300?

(or whatever is stated on top of the battery)


My current is a "Lexus battery" that was replaced free under warranty
by the dealer a couple of years ago.

That's seems about right...

I was at the Lexus dealer earlier today. They were going to
allow me to swap my Lexus battery with a new one. Since my
battery is a little over 2 years old, they prorated it at 75%,
so I have to pay 25%(which turns out to be 23 dollars)

However, the new Lexus battery they gave me shows 850 CCA...

is the extra 265 CCA bad for my RX300? It starts and runs fine,
at least since noon.... but I'm a little worried...

No, it's quite all right. I have had my Optima Red Top 34/78 for over 4 years now and it has an 800 CCA. Remember, a lot of people use performance batteries for car audio reasons.

TL- Are you sure that the 850CCA is not 850CA? That is a huge battery for an RX of any kind! That is even a heavy duty battery for a truck. My '04 Ford f-150 PU with the optional 5.4L V-8 came with the optional 650CCA battery. My brothers '07 Ford F-150 with the 5.4L came with the standard 540CCA battery. It won't hurt anything but depending on what amperage your alternator is it may not keep that large a battery fully charged. (you wouldn't know that, you would have to test it to know). I wonder if somehow they messed up and looked up the battery for the large Lexus SUV with the V-8. Even then that would be a large battery for it. I realize it no longer applies with all the electronics and electrical demand but to put it a little bit more in perspective, they used to figure 1CCA per C.I. That would mean that your RX would have a 850 C.I. engine in it. Now that's some power house! LOL My motor home has a 454 C.I. Chevy in it (7.4L) and the last time I bought a battery for it the largest thing they showed for it was a 660CCA.

P.S. I believe the original eq. was indeed 585 CCA.
