Default I receive unlimited free Mobil 1 oil(0W-40), is it okay to use in '01 RX300 engine?

one of my other cars is a Mercedes. As a result of being owner of that particular model and a class action lawsuit settlement, I receive unlimited, free Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil (0W-40) for the life of this vehicle. It's two cases of Mobil 1 0W-40 every 10,000 miles, in the form of a free certificate. (but they actually send out the certificate every 6 months)

I rarely drive my Mercedes, only putting on about 4000 miles per year. This means I have a lot of the oil left. As of right now, I have 7 and half cases of Mobil 1 0W-40 just sitting in my garage.

I tried taking the oil to the local Autozone and Advance Auto Parts to see if they'll let me swap for a different grade of Mobil 1.(5W-30, for the RX300) Unfortunately the Mobil 1 (0W-40) that I get have "NOT FOR RETAIL SALES" printed on top of the cases....

Is it alright to use 0W-40 in the '01 RX300? I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-30, which I purchase from Costco. It's the only oil that I've used since I bought the RX300 new.

I would just go ahead and try it,see how it performs. And make sure you have no oil usage on it etc.Hopefully you live in a warm climate, where it would be more acceptable performance. But I must warn you,it is a 14cst which is a pretty thick oil for the RX. I believe the German castrol is 12cst.

Well, its the thickness characteristic`s of the oil.the Mobil-1 5W-30 your using now is 10cst. I`m using the MB-1 0W-30 advanced fuel economy, and that`s an 11 cst @100c The thinnest cst I`ve seen in a synthetic motor oil is the Castrol Syntec 5W-30 with a 9.7 cst. That is a thin oil. Follow my examples now? This is why I really would not want to use it in the RX. But the free oil would prompt me to at least try it.All I`m saying is it would not be my first choice if I was buying it. Hope this helps you to decide. And I hope I didn`t confuse you re; this cst stuff. If you have any more questions, that`s what were here for.

I've used 0W40 when I was in Mexico. Of the grades I personally tested of M1, it was the best in my opinion as I had the fewest consumption/mpg issues with it and that includes 5W30, but I still wound up using some additives to keep things in check (keep in mind what I used to do with my RX back then at the track). It's a better formulation than 5W30 in my opinion.
