I've taken care of the squeaky noise with lube, but just recently I started getting that mechanical gurgling noise. It happens as I turn the wheel, and it sounds like lego tumblers....

I have the same issue with my steering wheel and was told by the Lexus dealer "Recommend Replacing Spiral Cable" and were asking for approx 650$.

I did try the silicone/WD-40 but that did not help.
Since the issue is not bothering me much i am not going to spend 650 on it.
If anyone knows what is the spiral cable that Lexus mentioned please let me know.

My 2002 RX300 AWD had this noise and the Lexus dealer fixed it before I completed the sale as part of our sales agreement. Here is the part number (84306-60050).

Spiral cable sits in the steering wheel.

Here is a pic

One has to trace the source of the noise.

Yes the cable is strictly for the Airbag connection.
