i have 2001 rx300 awd with 110.000 miles, it rides smooth and nice but makes strange whining noise from 1st gear to 2nd but doesn't slip or anything like that drives very well, is there a big problem or not? i also changed trans fluid and gasket, should i use any trans treatment? lukas or any other brands?

How long has it done this? My 01' has made this whining/whirling noise for 70,000 miles now from first to second.

 

mine started when it was around 90.000, and now i have 110.000, so i guess its not big deal then.

 

I am wondering if there is any chance that it is the aluminum planetary gear housing that Thomas posted some pictures of recently. A whine from 1st to 2nd would more likely be planetary gears. It wouldn't cause any slipping because that would involve clutches or bands. I would at least try and find an HONEST trans. shop in your area that would ride in it and listen and see what they thought. Make sure that it's a shop that is very familiar with Toyota & Lexus.
