what is the ride quality like on a RX300 with 20-inch wheels and 245/45/20 tires?
(original unmodified suspension) According to Tire Rack, 245/45/20 will not
rub... but I'm having doubts about this.... anybody knows?

I realize it will obviously be worse, but how much worse?

The reason I'm asking is that my Lexus dealer has a set of 20" wheels for the
RX that they're trying to get rid of. Brand new OZ wheels, but never
mounted. The set of four wheels has been sitting in the parts dept for
4almost a year. They just have dust on them, from being on display all this
time. I like the wheel..

Tire Rack has them for $453 each, but my Lexus dealer only wants $150
for each. (mostly because they're trying hard to get rid of them) That's only
$600 for the set and I plan on order the tires from Tire Rack, so maybe another
$700 or $800? Total around $1400 wheels/tires... not too bad... especially
considering the fact that the parts manager told me they'll mount the tires for
free, once I bring the tires in.

This is the wheel:

If you like them, that's a great price! The ride will be MUCH harsher, though. The more recent models have suspensions tuned for an 18" to 20" wheel/tire combo. The original RX300 does not. Moreover, it's an older car now with more than its fair share of rattles and clunks. Finally, I don't think you find a set of 4 tires in that size (235/45x20) for under a grand and installallation on 20' wheels is usually much more expensive that smaller ones.

My experience comes from cars and going up +1 or +2 but never +4! Personally, I wouldn't go over 17". But that's just me - I'm an old fart!

Those OZ are real nice looking wheels... that will look great with the RX.

This is what I have in 18's with 55 series tires and it was not bad. I have 35 series tires in my other car, highway drive is fine except when you get to real crapy road. But it has stiffer suspension, I think it be ok with stock suspension.

My RX currently rolls on 8.5" wide 20" rims with 255/45 tires. Ride is a bit harsh but the compromise isn't that bad considering that it looks way better now. Same goes with the fuel consumption.

There are some rubbing against the front fender lines when turning the wheels to their full left/right turns; I'm considering some spacers to solve this. The narrower tires you are considering (245/45) may just clear the liners; you may want to have them trial-fitted on your car and tested against full lock-to-lock turning.

sktn- I think that is a given. There is no way she's gonna love the ride with those wheels and tire size. A "45"on any car is pretty much gonna destroy the ride- the chiropractors love it though!

Yeah, I have the 225/40x18 option (it wasn't optional) on my IS250 and I've just bought a set of the standard wheels with 225/45x17s to improve the ride!
