Default foggy looking headlights

As with age my headlights have become scratched and sun beaten with time. It is a 2001 RX-300. I looked at replacing them both at around $100 each from an online store. I have seen polishing kits that say the make them like new again. Any luck with this? To me when the headlights look clear and new, it makes the vehicle look so much better. thanks for advise.

powerslide- There are actually headlight polishing kits that work. I personally preferred to sand them with ultra-fine wet paper and polish them with a buffer and polishing compound. And then use a good wax. It is a little bit of work alright but if you're willing to put the work into it, you can make 'em look like new. You probably would be better off with one of the good restoration kits. I agree, foggy headlights make a car look old, just like gray hair makes us look old. LOL

You may or may not be happy with the online store headlights. They will for sure be Asian aftermarket for that price. Some of them fit pretty good, others don't fit at all!. They will definitely not be original equipment quality.

I replaced both of my headlights on my '99 RX300 with a brand called TYC. They were a perfect fit aftermarket. I only used this brand becuase I had a '96 Toyota Camry and I replaced those headlights with TYC, just as I did on my Lexus perfect fit, can't even tell that they are not OEM. Hopes this helps.

I bought them on ebay for under $200.00 (both) , they came with bulbs, a huge change.

Mine are starting to get foggy towards the top but it looks like it's more on the inside and not the outside.

The key is to figure out if the dullness is form outside or inside.

For outside dullness, I have been using plastx (or some thing spelled close to it). This is a polishing compound which removes the dullness, but it has a draw back. I need to reuse it more frequently (3~4 months interval).

I have also been using Meguiar's PlastX for my headlights on both my ES and RX. I have been very satisfied with the results. Our RX's lights were very dull and cloudy. I did two applications of the PlastX and they almost look brand new. Huge improvement on headlight performance afterward. The great thing about it is that it's cheap and available almost everywhere.

Get some FW1 online www.fastwax.com. It works well on headlight covers, the best i've tried so far.

Check out the Headlight restoration with 1500, 2000, PLastX sticky from the detailing section for lots of info and pictures of this.

Personally I have tried several store bought products by hand and they work somewhat for a short while. Then I got a UDM and let me tell you wet sanding and machine polishing is the most effective method. Lasts much longer. Still has to be redone but the results are worth it.

Are you positive it's on the inside? If so, that's usually caused by condensation inside the light. Does it ever go away with time or is it permanent?

For sure on the inside

I can snap a pic, but this is my first used car, so I'm just trying to clean it up a bit

looks like the yellow-ish "blush" on the upper part of the headlight could be from condensation
