youtube video on brakes
Hi, just want to let people know that someone posted as great video on how to change out the brake pads and the disc. Just go to youtube and type in "rx300 brakes". This guy did a two part video and it really helped me understand how it is done.

The dude's pads were brand new. I think he did this just to film the "tutorial" because I've never had a caliper stick like that where I've need a flat screw driver to pry the caliper loose. Usually the bottom flange bolt comes off, and then the caliper is pretty loose and floats right up.
Also, he leaves the caliper assembly after he removes it just hanging. That is some heavy weight to be putting on the brake line. I know it most likely will not snap, but it might crack at the crimp area of the line. I usually use a coat hanger or such, and put it through any opening and then hook the other end on the suspension spring. This way, relieving the caliper brake line of any stress.
Other than that... a good tutorial, but I would have liked had he moved the camera to get to the back to show the actual bolts and location, but once you get back there, there are only a few bolts. Two to hold he caliper and two to hold the caliper retainer.

I appreciate the guy's efforts, but it would have been nice if he used the OEM anti-squeal shims and showed how to lube the sides of the pads and slider bolts (as some of the material on this forum suggest). Maybe he didn't use the shims because he didn't use OEM pads.
I've replaced disc brake pads many times on previous cars, but they were very different in their configuration. Also, I think (from the shape of the container) the stuff he put on the backs of the pads is the kind you are supposed to let dry overnight before putting the pads on; or at least that's what I used to do.
