seat belt retraction tension gone
Hi, the drive side set belt retraction tension is basically gone meaning the seat belt rectracts very slowly or not at all. I usually manually help the belt retract. Any suggestions?

There is some accumulation/dirt on the top part through which the belt goes through and one has to use some double sided tape to try to remove some of that dirt. My uncle used to take a small file or knife and gently cut a small bit on both sides to allow further leeway of the belt.

Put some slack in the belt and squeeze velcro strip between the belt and the loop with non smooth side facing the loop/hook. With floss action you can clean the hook.

There was actually a TSB on this problem, as the belt and hoop get dirty, the belt fails to slide through the hoop. Cleaning the hoop (the upper hanger that supports the shoulder harness) usually helps.

We are talking about the loop anchor, above the shoulder.
In '99 it was plastic (matching trim) covering the steel loop. Grime would grow and constrict the belt.
If the spring take back is flopping the belt between the hook and the retractor, then the problem is with the retractor.
The retractor, although covered may need simple cleaning (compressed air).
