ever bend your power antenna driving too fast?
I was just wondering if anyone has ever bent their power antenna from driving to fast on the highway (meaning that it affected how it operates up/down) this morning I was on my way to work, and a T/T driver was playing games with me.I was in the passing lane,he was in the right lane.Every thing was ok until I tried to actually get around him,I noticed I was going 90mph and just barely got past him. Then I realized my radio was on,and thought: I wonder how much those things can take before it bends them just enough, that they dont function properly.( I guess only I think up this stupid stuff) any thoughts on this?? or am I just being goofy?

In reality the bend does happen, just like the wings on a plane flex. The flex mostly takes care of the bending that happens. Even then, over time the antennas develop a lean. The sections not only allow the antenna to fold more compact, it also has a give for the lean. As the antenna ages, the slides develop more opening and the grime accumulates lot faster.

Took mine around the Lowes Motor Speedway which is 1.5 miles. I did a little over a lap and the few times I looked down I was at 110ish. I noticed my radio was on after the fact. No antenna damage noted.

The RX can't go fast enough, even down hill, to bend the antenna enough to warp it. If you have a giant Mickey antenna topper for added resistence and wind force, then I could see bending beyond recoil, but just regular? NAH....
At that speed, the rear wipers do start flapping though...

that is a perfectly good suggestion and i know exactly what you mean about "unwinding and a job well done". i, however stand the chance of a 750 volt shock from my defibrillator at any given point in time, i pick and choose my activites according to what i would most want to be doing at any given time and i have to say priorities in life can change.... i spend a lot of time in my metalwork shop, grinding and milling. it's what i most enjoy. thus i have tangled a few antennas... lol

Stretch the baby out...
Let's just say there is a certain 2+ miles stretch of "skyway" that a cop can not hide out on and I was able to test the limits of the RX. However, not to be done often as if a tire were to somehow blow and you lose control, you could very easily jump the wall and plunder about 100' to a very untimely end... and test how fast a RX can fall.
