yeah, that car is worth something like 4k...

although I have a different car, i'll use my lexus as an example. I have a 1998 GS300 with just over 205,000 miles. It KBBs for $4k.

I would think the RX would be about the same price.

(ok, i just re-read the original post - this car is being sold by a dealer??? - ugh, you can find a better deal private party. additionally- i'm pretty sure the dealer paid something like 3,500-4k for the car... if you REALLY are interested in a high-mileage RX, you shouldn't have a problem finding one for 4-5k)

It's the truth, even the low mileage one is laughable at $11k for a '99? They'll have steak every night when they make sales like that. The dealer lives in the real world, he knows THAT day what a car is worth. And SUV's have definitely taken a hit, a hard one, ALL SUV's! Even with low miles, anyone who knows RX's AT ALL know there are some potential problems with the early ones especially. I have my serious doubts that any new car dealer would give more than $5k in REAL DOLLARS for a 10 or possibly 11 tear old RX and very possibly less, even with those kind of miles. Remember, the key is REAL DOLLARS, not what's on paper. I have a hard time imagining a Lexus dealer that would put a '99 on their lot, no matter how nice, it's gonna get sold at auction. Even the clean cars that they do keep are going to bring them more profit than they made on the new car they took it in trade on. The new and the used car departments virtually always operate independent of one another.

By the way, whether you believe it or not, the KBB is a joke! If you don't believe me, take the car for a test drive and stop at a couple of used car lots and ask them what they will give you in cash for it, without letting them know you don't own it. I think you will be in shock! But you will find out what it is ACTUALLY worth!

i think it may also differ depending on where you live..cuz everyone that says my price is high is from cali where the prices for the rx there is waaay lower than over here in wa..all the rx's here in wa are around the same price. i think thats why wa sucks..haha =P

oh..and its not the lexus dealership..its an independent used car dealership..and usually when i test drive cars..a salesperson is with me..so im not sure how i would be able to take it to another car lot and ask them what they'll give me in cash for it. though, i do know someone who lives here and took their 02 with 86k and they were gonna give him $11,500 for it.

So. Cal. I would remind you that asking is as my wife say, "Your every wish is your every wish". Asking price is just that, asking price. If someone BELIEVES KBB, they will probably pay too much for what they are buying. I have spent my life in automotive work and have always known how to buy right. That doesn't mean buy "cheap", it means not overpaying for what you buy. I know prices are high in WA., I could state why, but I won't. The customer who walks in to any dealer, new or used without full knowledge of how the game is played and how to beat them at there game, walks out with his head turned around backwards (and it's hard to see where you're going that way). My brother-in-law used to be a used car manager and the AVERAGE used car buyer is their dream-come-true. He made some VERY good money for himself and the company, not by dishonesty, just by people paying too much for the cars they bought.

I wouldnt pay more than $5000.00 G`s for it with those amount of miles. Also have them pull a valve cover and check the sludge condition (if applicable) If you could get it for 5k,and it checks out with what was mentioned,I would go for it.
