Another quick way of increasing you mpg is reduce the rx's weight. Like doors, seats, glass, trim, cats, dont eat or drink when driving and so on. LOL

Funny, but it's actually true. A lot of people have just "junk" in their trunk that need to be removed. Don't keep gallons and gallons of fluids thinking the car is all of a sudden going to burst and lose all it's liquids. If the radiator bursts, having a 1/2 gallon of coolant won't do anything. Why do you have transmission fluid in there? Do you have a funnel and rachet set too? Also, ONE quart of oil.. not six.

You can gamble too and maybe remove the spare tire too. The RX has a full sized spare, so that's some pretty hefty weight to lug around. You can also upgrade to a fiberglass hood to save a few pounds.

Anyway, there are little things that will result in small gains, but atleast it's better than nothing.

I don't drive with my spare tire. That stays in the laundry room at our house.

I took out the third row of seats in my girlfriend's Expedition for the same reason.

Hey Lex,now the rear of your RX is jacked up right?? (less weight back their) I usually dont carry a full tank of gas unless Im going on a trip etc. for the exact same reason, why carry the extra weight around? 1 gallon of fuel is around 3lbs. 18x3= 54

It seems to be on a slight uptilt as a result of less weight, I don't really notice it that much. I usually just go 1/2 tank or so unless I am going on long trips, such as say down to the Florida Keys.

When I used to go to the track I would run around 1/4 to 1/8 a tank to keep the weight down.

My commuter is a PT cruiser which gets about 29 to 30 mpg (freeway). When I removed all the seats with the exception of the driver the mpg went up to 32 to 33 mpg @ a speed of 70 to 75mph. Then I went a little crazy (so the wife says) and removed the hatch door last summer. A little noisey but added 1 to 2 mpg. When you commute 100+ miles 4X per week the you get a little crazy.
