Default Can the faceplate be removed?

I dont come to the RX forums at all
so im not familiar to it, my friend has a radio that she is having removed,
but the replacement radio has a different color trimming from the current trim she has.

I want to know if its possible to take off the old trimming and place it with the replacement radio?

thanks in advanced

I just changed out the faceplate on my daughter's 99 RX. The dash-color surround, the black frame around the screen, the housing for the ***** under the screen, and the radio faceplate itself are all one piece. Snap out the U-shaped wood trim piece, and you'll see the nuts to unfasten the faceplate. (Factory radio and ***** would come out with it.)

I picked up a perfect used one from LKQ for under $100 -- maybe you could cut something out of an extra one if I understand your question correctly.

I've tried to post one photo here; I'll try another one with an additional post.

Question for you - one of the vanes in my AC vent is broken and it looks like the beige box with the vent in it (there are 2 - one each side of the LCD display) just unclips from the rear. Is that the case?

Yes -- I checked. You push in on all four dash-colored tabs (two on left, two on right), and the box slips right out without damaging anything.

I see that the small box contains the rear vanes, does it have the front vanes in it also or are they connected to the main (large) LCD display cover?

(The car is out of town just now so I can't go out and look)

I have not disassembled the parts, but ny looking at the RX and pictures here,
the vertical vanes are connected to the front piece. The horizontal are in the rear snap on assembly. There has to be a link between the front slider and the back assembly.

Yeah, that's what I feared - it's the front one that's broken (doesn't swivel side to side with the other vanes). I guess I'll just leave it.

I just popped the pieces apart to check. The end nubs (serving as hinges) for the front vanes are locked between the tan box edges and the big dash housing -- not fastened to either one, but pivoting in between. Did I explain that OK? It's hard to put into words.

Yes, I think I get it. I found a link to the part you're referring to but it's the wrong model year (chrome strip on the fingerpiece and maybe also the wrong color):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-03...QQcmdZViewItem

I'll call the stealer and see if it's still available for my car.

PS, Sorry for hi-jacking the original thread
