Excess oil useage freeway only!?
I have a 2000 RX 300 bought used with 100k on it. No smoke out the tail pipe, coolant is good not milky runs very good but this truck used almost four quarts on a 500 mile trip easy freeway miles. Now that was a fresh oil change. So i just dumped the oil and did another l.o.f checked warm then to be sure the next morning when cold. In the next 500 miles all around town no drop on the stick. Today did an 80 mile freeway run used almost a quart! Any ideas? Thanks Dan

Get all cylinders pressure tested. Also see if the oil is gelling.

5w-30 castrol. Had 10w-30 in it when the oil light came on the first time after approx 400 -450 highway miles. So that experience and this past mondays i watch the level like a hawk. Dp

Mine did the same thing shortly before the CEL came on. Turned out to be the dreaded sludge problem and it wasn't allowing any oil into the dipstick tube. Showed no oil, but the engine was full. My local Lexus dealer gave us a new engine in our 99 RX for no charge since we had followed the recommended maintenance schedule.
