Default Auto door lock in D Position?

Hello!

Many new Lexus can automatic close the doors if ia go to D and drive (and open the doors if i select P)

is this function possible by the old RX300 or only in the new RX?

greets

Tom

This has been discussed in the past, but not for a while. The locking of the doors is a programable CBEST function. I think only Lexus dealers can modify these settings, but some do it for free.

If the RX is like my mother's ES300 of the same period, the doors lock when you shift to Drive, but don't unlock when you shift to Park.

If you mean lock and unlock, that comes from the c-best settings which are only accessible by a dealer, which sucks.

This is correct. You can have the dealership change the CBEST setting to lock once engaged to "D" The feature of unlocking once in "P"ark is not an option however, but I think it's better this way. Locking for safety is a good idea, automatically unlocking just because you put into "P" is not so good. What if I don't want to unlock yet. I'll unlock myself thank you...

My dealer told me that this was not a programmable option on my 1999 RX. I don't need it to unlock when in Park, only would like them all to lock when put into Drive. Anyone have a 1999 that does this?

Sorry I am not answering your question here ...

Keep in mind the door lock actuator(s) are not very robust, so give that some consideration.

For safety, it is recommended to lock the door .. just move the lock **** (next to the release lever) and when more than the driver door is unlocked use the electronic master lock button (driver or front pass) ... hopefully the actuators would be exercised less this way.

Don't mean to bring up the dead, but does anyone know if the CBEST can be programmed on a 99 RX to automatically lock when put into "D". It is my wife's RX and that is one of the main reasons she wants a new one now. If I can have it programmed to do it, maybe I won't have to spend major $$$ on a newer RX or even a GX like she is hinting that she wants. With a newer engine, I don't see the need to spend the $$$ on a newer model.

If anyone has an answer, please help. The dealer that I frequent states that on the 1999 it was not a CBEST option. If it is, I will simply try another dealer.

Thanks in advance!

If we take this thread as the definitive list, then does not look like it's an option:
