I`d say it works very good Joe,just follow the instructions and use an oversize filter.K&N 2009 I believe is one.

I was looking at pics last week of engines with sludge. I noticed that there was some inside the oil fill hole area (never really check before). I purchased the car last summer with 87000 miles on her. Now she has over 130000. I have been changing the oil and filter every 3500 miles with Mobil 1 synthetic and KnN oil filter 1002. No oil consumption of any sort. Oil level before oil change is normal. Just a little concern of the sludge. Now the tranny is starting to whine on the first two gears. But that’s another topic.

I noticed the 1st to 2nd gear whine is more pronounced on regular fuel. When I run Premium (which is most of the time) I dont notice this as much (I know that sounds wierd, but its definitely noticeably on regular).Maybe you should drop the pan,and clean the screen(if it has one yet) or change the filter if it has a filter instead of the screen.

The brown you see at the filler hole is not the gel. It is sort of varnish ... dried heated oil and is not in circulation or preventing circulation.

I noticed this as well...my car whines on 87 and if I use 93 it doesn't whine at all or it is so slight that I can't hear it even if I'm trying to.

Man, Zzorro, you put some miles on. Do the wheels ever stop turning? I doubt that there are very many that don't have that baked on crud in the filler hole. Been quite a few pictures on the forum of the same thing. My DIL's 99RX had it and i worked with steel wool and solvent and lacquer thinner to get it off. It is so baked it almost seems part of the metal. I did get it off, and running Castrol GTX for the last 30k mi., there has been no sign of return, not a trace.

I am so glad you noticed this too,I thought the board would send out the straight jacket.I definitely notice a shift pattern difference on the two fuels.probably a more delayed shift on regular as well.I`m sure their will be members that say thats impossible!! how could that happen! Well it affects more than just the engine performance on todays vehicles. The transmissions are electronic as well, and adjust accordingly.

Ever since I've had the car always filled up with 91 oct. name brand stuff like shell, chevron and 76. Look like I will be dropping the pan next weekend.

Yea, I fell in love with the ride after we had bought her. She turned into my commuter car for a while and there was a lot of trips from sacramento to LA.The RX is very comfortable in long drives. Almost TOOO comfortable...

Castrol GTX,and Pennzoil conventional oils are rated highly over on bitog. How often do you change her oil code??

I have changed my own oil all my long life and It has been lifelong 3k mi., no matter how the miles were put on. Just figured good oil and filters were the cheapest insurance I would ever buy. Before I started working on it, my son changed the oil and it was around 5k mi., O&F. He changes it about half the time now and I have retrained him to do 3k mi. changes with Castrol. With that frequent of changes, I am comfortable with dino. I know with todays oil quality, 3k is not necessary, but I rest easy with that. With Castrol I have never had anything but gray oily metal showing inside, not one trace of discoloration of any kind. I posted some time back that I used Havoline for over 20 years and thought I was doing good for the engine. I had reason to pull an engine part way apart over 20 yrs ago on a car I purchased new and had maintained this way and was astonished at the VARNISH build up. No more Havoline for me, changed to Castrol and never looked back!
