Default Transmission Fluid(Sorry)

I know this issue is kind of beat to death but I usually run all full synthetic fluids. I keep finding diff. info though. Only use toyota fluid in trans, use this synthetic or that. Is there anyone out there with a ton of miles on there rx that uses a synthetic and hasn't had there trans replaced?? I'm currently having engine problems and since I'm this far i want to do as much as I can to avoid having trans problems. Anything else I can do to make this rolling pile(a little aggression towards the RX with the issues I've been having) with a Lexus emblem trans last?

Some use Amsoil, and some have used the new Mobil 1 (new formula) tranny fluid. There is a lot of discussion on the tranny, Drain and fill every 15k miles is what most of us do. Unfortunately there is a weak link in the transmission probably the planetary gear carrier which is made out of aluminum with steel gears. I feel the cooler should be relocated to the front of the car where there is better air flow. Gives me a headache to think about all of the what i could do to prevent failure.

Amsoil is what I've been using since I got back to the states. TunedRX300 has been using Amsoil ATF for far longer than I have and has not had issues.

Agree on the tranny cooler location. I actually removed my windshield wiper fluid reservoir for good so the tranny cooler could get better airflow (the cooler is located on the passenger side just in front of the front wheel and behind the bumper).

Do you think there is any downside to a seperate inline magnetic trans filter? I know it will maybe change the psi a fraction but prolly more good than bad right?

As Lexmex already mentioned, I have Amsoil Universal ATF for more than 62K miles, no issues. I also did a lab test of the used Amsoil ATF, our tranny gears are soft, so even with Amsoil, go 55K would be maximum for normal driving.

And I use Wolf`s Head (Amalie) full Synthetic. My retarded transmission did not like Amsoil at all!! Personally I think Amsoil although a very good oil,is overated in my opinion.

Not sure I understand this? Do you mean you wouldn't go more than 55k before changing?

Yes, for the style I am driving with my setup. I have 70% Amsoil in the system to start with. For other folks, it is only a proxy, should not taken as hard recommendation. Driving style, mix of FWY and local, and % of ATF mixture all matter.

I'm on Royal Purple Max ATF, the multi-spec formula. I've tried Amsoil and I honestly cannot tell the difference. The only reason I chose RP is how impressed I was with their gear lube.

I think you cannot go wrong with any high quality synthetic ATF and change it out a lot sooner than the book. As Thomas says....15K.
