Question Any Preventive Maintenance For Air Conditioner?

I have 99K miles on my 01 RX300. As far as i remember i never got anything serviced in the AC since the time i bought it at 60K.
I never used too much of air conditioner but this time I am using AC much more.

Can someone in this knowledgeable group let me know if there is anything that needs to be checked/serviced as part of preventive maintenance. Or any fluid that i should get checked/changed.
I see all the coupons in the newspaper for AC service/check,etc for 40-50$. Don't want to get ripped and so thought it fit to check on this forum.

Thanks.
Trips.

Quite frankly, if the Air conditioning is working, leave it alone. The only filter is for the inside air filter for the heater/air located in the glove box.

My opinion is replace the cabin air filter as recommended in the owner's manual, replace the drive belts when they start squeaking, and (optional) check the temperature coming out of the vents, when things are set to recirculate air and Max cold, with one of those probe kitchen/building maintenanceman thermometers. I don't know what it should be, but if you are OK now, note the value for future reference.

Clean the condenser ... make sure air can flow through it freely ... fins need to be cleaned and straightened if needed.

One should run A/C once a week or every other week (even if it is cold) .... this prevents the seals from drying out.

Others have already mentioned the cabin filter. The servos are prone to failure.

The A/C check is more of a bait to bring owners in. If things are working, dont bother.

My DIL's '99RX still cools great at 133k mi and has never even had any 134A added, even though I had the complete front drive assy. out. I just removed the compressor from the engine and tied it out of the way. Freon (134A) doesn't wear out and as long as the seals aren't leaking, it could go to it's grave, never having to be touched. Best leave it (and the A/C check Specials) alone! As mentioned, the cabin filter is they only thing you should have to replace (and you can easily do that).

If the 99's are like my 02' then the A/C is working whenever the cabin air system is set to "Auto"....even in the dead of winter. I have 157,000 miles and never had the system serviced, other than drive belt and cabin filter changes.

+ to that. I would say every other week is enough and this applies even when it's winter season. The seals can dry and crack over the cold months, so you want to have the system continue to run and keep the seals moist.

I run my A/C in the winter a handful of times for say one complete trip (over 30 miles) every so often (maybe 6 times all winter) and the only car that my A/C has failed on was my '95 Civic with over 220K on it. My Teg with 215K is still running strong.
