Default Gas mileage computer information vs actual mileage

Do you guys know how accurate the computer gas milage information is. After I reset it three weeks back, the inforamtion screen shows 19.1 and 39.3 mph. I am guessing One is for city and one for highway but there is no way I get 39.3 mpg. Mine averages about 17 in city and 20 on highway.

WV the 39mph is your average speed. And I have found the mpg computer to be very close to actual millage.Off by maybe +1 or -1

I reset milage information couple days back and so far for 60 miles of city driving my average is only 14.5 mpg. I do take a lot of short trips of about 2 miles. The average city driving speed is only 25 mph. I live in a hilly area so I am going up and down from slopes all the time. Also its a small town so every thing is close by and roads are norrow and low speed. I am guessing these factors cause low gas milage. Next time I go on highway, I will reset it again to get accurate highway gas milage.
