I started using Mobil 1 ATF about 35,000 miles ago. The local mechanic drained, flushed and filled using about 14 quarts of it - yeah, I know, shouldn't have flushed but that was before all the hoopla over not flushing (even the local Lexus dealer was flushing transmissions back then). I'm at 130,000 now but I don't think you can read anything into that and I don't know if we'll ever really know if synthetic ATF is better than regular in our RX300s (although I would infer from engine oil that it is).

I been running Mobil 1 ATF for about 25K now, ever since my tranny was rebuilt. It stays real clean. When my car was new and had the original Toyota Type T-IV the fluid was dirtier after putting the first 25K on it. I think it's staying cleaner because the upgraded planatary gear no longer wears and dirties up the fluid like the old aluminum one did. As long as it stays clean I won't be changing it.

If I had stayed any longer in Mexico, there was a high chance I would have switched over to the current formulation of Mobil 1 ATF that covers Type IV ATF. It was the only real synthetic ATF down there, but when I was there it didn't cover the Type IV spectrum, but my cousin confirmed it did when he went to buy it yesterday to use as PSF fluid for a project car they are doing, but it seemed the Mobil 1 ATF they were buying before was on an old lot at the place they bought it.
