Default Newbie question

Hello all. Just bought a 2001 Rx w/ 70k on it. It's silver on grey w/ black int.. So far so good , knock on wood. I have a question on oil for the engine. I believe this was discussed already but I can't find the thread. I use Castrol 5/30 on my Legend. I was thinking of doing the same at 2500 intervals. Is it too late to use only synthetic w/ my miles? I wouldn't change it as often w/ synthetic.

Welcome to the Club.

Not at all, but I might suggest that you switch over to Castrol Syntec 0W30. It's a heavier 30 weight synthetic oil that a lot of us like, including myself, and available at Autozone and Pep Boys and that should help alleviate worries you might get from running a synthetic. It's also known by the nickname German Castrol and it's just a phenomenal oil. You can go way past 2500 miles on it. Also consider the larger K&N HP-2009 oil filter (the HP-1002 is the stock size). Castrol 0W30 went for like $6 a quart last time I checked.

I bought a 99 with 115K miles and started using Mobil One 5W-30. I doubt synthetic had been used by the prior owner, but so far I use no oil with 500 miles between changes. I expected to burn through it a little faster, but so far, so good! Welcome!
Lexmex and the others here are so helpful; I have gotten lots of great advice on this forum.

Later today, assuming no rain down here, I plan to do a DIY oil change with photos.

I`m using the Mobil-1 0W-30 now and it runs extremely well on that oil.

LOL. It'll be my hands getting dirty this time just like recent coolant and differential oil changeouts. It's a bit harder when you have to hold the camera and do the job at the same time.
