I go to firestone and they give me a synthetic blend. No doubet mobile one is good but once you go to a blend or full synthetic you cant go back to regular oil.

I was told that you never go from Synthetic to Standard.
Yes, It is true. I used Synthetic Mobil1 5W30 and it leaked. Since I changed to standard and the engine stop leaking. I would stay away from Synthetic from now on.

The reason a lot of ppl see a leak when switching to synthetic from regular is because when they switch to synthetic is begins to clean whatever build-up has occurred from using regular causing the leak. Its hit or miss. Some ppl never have a problem switching where others do. Best advice i can offer is to try the switch and see what happens.

So Mobil makes crappy synthetic and good synthetic? That doesn't even make sense.

Not all there synthetic is made by the same place. There are different plants and manufacturers.

I know there are guys that swear by castrol syntec 0w30 because its mades made in germany as compared to the 5w30, 10w30 or 5w20 syntec.

I have a 2001 with 94K miles....Currently running PP 5W-30 for the last 2 changes...prior to that was runnung Super 76 a Conoco blend that I got a case for $.76 per quart...I currently have a 5 QT jug of Mobil 1 0W-30 on deck for the next change....It is my personal belief that the OW mobil product has better base stock then the 5W but I am no trying to star a debate....if you want LOTS to read on the subject visit BITOG!

I actually just changed my oil over the weekend with Mobil1 0W-30. Especially for colder climates, lower viscosity at lower temperature is better since it will go through engine faster. Viscosity at running is the same for all SAE 30 oils.

Regarding oil leaks, if it starts leaking I will probably try to diagnose the problem instead of switching back to conventional; I don't think the leaks are a good reason to stay away from synthetic as some of you are saying.

If you switch to synthetic after regular I would go with the high mileage formula. The hmf has the chemicals to swell the gaskets to prevent leaks. I had an oil leak on my T100 truck when I bought it and I use mobile 1 high mileage and have no leaks now. I was told that the 10w30 would cause me to lose mpg but I could not see any difference on paper. 10W30 for winter and 10w40 for the summer on my old truck and 10w30 year round in the RX. I used Royal Purple or Amsoil in motors that I built. I would pay that much for oil in a daily driver.

I swtiched from regular oil to Mobil 1 5w-30 when the car was very young like 30k miles. Now the car has 180k miles and I am still using M 1 5w-30 with Fram filter. lucky, It has no leak at all. GL
