Ok, these two are not really related, but they are the two options i'm debating whether they are really worth it. After reading the manual I realize that my new RX comes with an anti theft system. Anybody adding a lo-jack ($650).
My dealer also mentioned a $550 Scotch-guard coating that protects interior leather & exterior paint. Has anyone had this done? Can you appreciate the difference?
I'm loving every minute of driving, although it's very difficult to be driving under 55 mph on the freeway. (Oly at 500 miles now on odometer).

Don't know about the value of Lo-Jack. Scotchgard by the dealer is a long, time honored example of dealer slush. For a couple of $6 cans of Scotchgard and a few hours by a $8/hr guy, you get to cough up what seems like a reasonable amount, considering the claims made. But you can DIY for literally pennies. Plus there are better products.
Try www.zainobros.com. These products actually DO exactly what is claimed. Do a search on the maintainence forum; there's actually a thread that's relatively current on the first page right now.
And I hate to say it, but if a dealer is lumping in Lo-Jack, my cynical bones tell me it's no longer worth it and the dealer is, again, taking a huge markup.

You should be able to get the dealer to come down to $400 on the "original" lo-Jack.
There is another lo-jack system available that is more expensive, I think it adds an alarm or something.
I think its worth it for peace of mind. Recently someone here (California) had their Lexus carjacked from them with their baby (2 years old) in the rear seat. It was all over the news because they wanted the public to help find the car ASAP. All I think about was "Activate Lo-Jack!" I don't if they had it or not but they did recover the car and child by the next day.

Lexus of Santa Monica quoted me $650 as "at cost". This is just the silent tracking system so I assume it is the "orignal lo-jack". How did you get the $400 figure? I'm curious, just in case, they tell me there's no such price?!
Please email me @ Tri@espfilmbuyers.com

When I bought my used RX, the dealer threw in the interior and exterior perma plate to sweeten the deal. You could probably clay and wax the exterior and scotch guard the interior to get the same effect. Dealer said within the next 5 years I could bring it in for touch ups if I felt either needed attending. Don't think I would have bit if they made me pay for it.

You could absolutely clay bar it yourself, then polish it. I recommend it. I can't wait to rub a clay bar across my paint again
After a clay and polish the paint finish is soooo smooth - showroom smooth, it's great.

I have both a RX300 and a IS300 and for some reason the paint on the IS is very soft and picks up sap and dirt easily. Clay bar to remove residue is definitely the way to go!
