Transmission fluid change?

Transmission fluid change?
I Just read through the DIY on this and have a question. If the existing filter is a metal screen it seems to me that the Amsoil warning TSB about transmission flush may not apply. The TSB http://www.amsoil.com/lit/filter_man_council01.pdf says that most filters are felt and will clog. So if it has a screen it won't clog right?

I just spoke with the lube guy and he says he wouldn't crack the transmission and bother changing the screen cuz it is a screen not a filter that can bung up. Is this true?
He says it is safer to flush amsoil through it ....

The original "filters" were wire mesh screens. All replacements now are paper. So if you're on your original filter, you may be OK, but I've never liked the idea of those paper filters!

After all that reading this is what stands out to me.
"Even if the fluid evacuation method is desired to remove the used transmission fluid,
the pan should be removed also, and an inspection should be made of the pan
contents, fluid, and filter to determine the condition of the transmission. Aluminum
filings in the pan or iron filings on the pan magnet are signs of internal wear and may
give light to potential problems in the transmission. Transmission service is
performed for preventative maintenance. Evaluating the overall condition of the
transmission by removing the pan should be part of this preventative maintenance
also."

the only way to do a flush is to do a fluid exchange, using the tranny pump to move the fluid. However I agree with Code58 dropping the pan and really checking the condition is the proper way. The flush machines are the service way of eliminating labor, but doesnt give you the proper condition of the tranny. As for the screen, can be cleaned and replaced, but buying a new filter will probably give you a paper medium.
