no, mine would be my 1996 Ford Ranger P/U. RX300 wan't too bad though. It was passed along to our daughter recently w/ 109,000 miles on it. Hope the the transmission holds together...

The question has a built in comparison, that makes it tough as I have to compare RX with SC4, GS4 and BMW328i. The BMW needs the most attention.
Overall very happy. Back in 98-99 time frame, RX was the ONLY real choice in Xover SUV.

My BMW325ic, a 1990 model, didn't give me much trouble at all, but then again it never saw Mexico and I saw plenty of other expats bring other vehicles south of the border and go through 10x the hell I did, so I can't complain with my RX300.

Out of everything I've (or my family) ever owned, compared to my '99 RX the...
1. 1990 Plymouth Grand Voyager was worse. Had issues before 60k and all the way to 110K when we finally had the transmission rebuilt and traded in for 1995 Civic.
2. 1992 Acura Integra GSR is much better. Already have 215K and still running good. Never had anything out or normal go on me. Still on original suspension.
3. 1995 Honda Civic LX was also better. Went 220K with no issues. Sold it to friend who put on another 80K with no issues and now it's supposedly somewhere in West Africa.
4. 1998 Honda Accord EX V6 was worse. I got the probably ten lemons that Honda makes a year. EGR, engine idle, transmission went at 90k... ugh.
5. 2004 LS430 is so far better, but I've only had it one year. I expect it to be better than the RX300.
6. 1985 BMW 745il was way worse. Nothing was running good on that car. AC went, muffler went, power windows, all below 100K.

My RX is very reliable.(knocks on wood) I have a 96' Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8L with 225,000 miles on it 1st engine and 3rd tranny so i cant really complain about the RX's tranny considering i haven't had any problems with it so far. I also have a 92' Toyota Corolla with 255,000 miles on it. I used to have a 89' Toyota Van a very funny looking P.O.S with around 200,000 miles but the tranny was very weak and the engine was cracked from overheating so the oil and antifreeze kept mixing. As you can see i run my cars till the wheels come flying off. I drive 40 miles a day so thats why all of my cars have many miles on them. Plus i drive to Michigan almost every month if not every other month. And i usually have the cruise set to about 80-85 and like to hammer the gas pedal down every now and then. So I would say that the RX is a reliable car so far although it only has 137,000 miles on it right now so its to early to tell. But i like toyota alot so i may be bias.
