Hi everyone,
I got my RX in Dec and only put 2100miles on it. The oil change sticker says to have the oil change done by April 26 or 5k miles so I called up the dealer and the person said wait till I hit 5k miles to get the oil change done.
Should I wait or get it done?
Just wanted to say This is the best Lexus forum I have seen online ...Thanks everyone for your input

I'd go ahead and change the oil. Part of the reason for the time limitaion (vs mileage) is simply to remove contaminants and crud that are suspended in the oil and which are in contact with seals/etc regardless or mileage.
BTW, 5000k miles = 5 million (5000 x 1000) miles. I'd SURE change the oil by then.........

In writing up the maintainance schedule, the factory has assumed that if you haven't driven the vehicle 7500 miles within the designated time period then the vehicle isn't used enough, or on long enough trips to remove the moisture and some of the other contaminants by thoroughly heating the system.
They disregard, of course, the fact that you might have other vehicles that you rely on alternately. I change the oil in my 911 only once a year. Before I put it away for the winter I make sure its driven long and hard just before I park it for the final time and I make sure the gas tank is topped off.
"Oil change STICKER"
How often you need to change the oil and filter, and address all maintainance items, is very well defined by the factory in your owners manual/packet. Unless you use the vehicle as a Taxi or towing your first interval based on mileage should be 7500 miles.
In the end you should always err on the side of conservatism, just be careful about not being unduly price gouged by "starving" Lexus service managers, they will be more than willing to take you to the "cleaners".

I would NEVER argue that an oil, and filter change isn't a good thing to do. But please remember that every time you let someone "tinker" with your car you're taking a chance on the possibility that they won't do things correctly or well.
No Lexus service manager will ever put a "certified technician" to work doing routine maintenance, the best you will likely get is someone just a tad over-qualified as a McD "flipper".
If you do use a third party, or even DIY, look things over within a day or so to make sure there are no leaks and check the dipstick oil level for no-fill, underfill, and/or over-fill.

On my RX I changed the oil and filter after the first 1,000 miles and then every 3,000 miles after. The first one is to get all of the junk from the casting and build of the engine out as soon as possible, the dealer believes this also. I bring my RX in the change the oil/filter wash it and I’m gone in about 1hr. No charge
I have a Toyota Previa with almost 200,000 miles on it and a Avalon with 60,000 miles on it and am lookng forward on getting at least 200,000 miles on my RX and Avalon as well. Not having a monthly payment is really nice, and worth the "extra" oil changes on all of them.

Other factors in addition to time and mileage should be taken into account when reviewing your oil change schedule. Short trip driving will add to the frequency of needed oil changes. This is probably the cheapest preventitive maintenance you can do to protect and insure long lifee of your investment. "Waste" the 20-50 bucks and change the oil and filter too often rather than having possible problems..including the dredded oil sludge problem of the Toyota 6cyl. engine.
