I have been reading up on the servo issues. My daughters 2001 RX300 is only blowing air through the dash vents. Will not go to the floor or defrost. what is the difference between the servos and what does each control?

What you are describing sounds like a problem with the mode servo, which determines which vents the air blows through. The air mix servo determines the temperature of the forced air.
