Hello,

1st let me say that overall i'm amazed at the durability of my vehicle and to be honest i haven't been the best owner in terms of servicing it consistently and now find myself at a crossroads.

CEL is on and car has received no major svc in over 1 yr. Oil's been changed and thats it.

Really don't wanna get rid of it as it is paid for and reliable but also don't want a side of the road breakdown. What do you all recommend? What can I expect from major 240,000 miles svc? How much? Can I get it done anywhere for less than dealer? I'm sure other things will be found once taken in, so is it even worth getting "repaired" at this point?

I am about 100,000K miles behind you.

I'd first find out what the CEL is by taking it to a place like Autozone or Pep Boys and having the OBD2 code read and then bring it back to us so we can give you opinions on what it is.

The service schedule is based on multiples of 7.5k miles. Some of the service are just inspect (minor) but the multiples of 30k (intermediate) (Times 1, 2, 3) are more extensive. The multiple of 90K are major service.

Depending on what has been missed or not done, you may be facing a major service.

CEL by itself means that the on-board computer is getting some information that is preventing the RX to run (mostly emission) properly. Although possible, but the CEL and service or lack of it may or may not have anything in common.

It would be nice if you would write about your ownership experience. We tend to see lot of complaints as satisfied users seldom post.

The major service goes by 90k service. If you have done
180k or 200k service, then 240 service is just like 30k or 60k service. Other than that just fix anything that breaks. If you haven't done any major service, then go by the 90k major service.

It is comforting to hear you have gotten to this point without any major problems, and just basic maintenance. That is what I am hoping for as well. If I get to 240K on my RX without any major breakdowns, I think I will be the happiest man on earth.

Hey its payed for, cheap transportation. Find the code and fix the problem. You will be dollars ahead, and run it until it costs too much....Put the car payment in the bank and enjoy....my wifes has 173k miles and that is our plan.....
