Debating to either get a Lexus Battery or a Toyota Battery
Hello,
I always ask silly questions so here goes: My battery is dead (2001 model) with an 84 month battery (Labeled Lexus on top of the battery) so the prorated warranty is out. I just went to a Toyota dealership with the Part number 00544-MF24F-575 (575 Cold Crank Amps) with a quote of $98.15. Then I went to a Lexus dealership and they quoted $110.00. Because the dealership was near CostCo, they have a 36month battery for $60.00. I asked the Lexus dealer if I can do it myself since it's just a positive and negative connection, should I have the dealer do it since there's a computer brain in the car. Of course, they said they should do it so I'll have a record on file (I'm out of warranty anyways). What should I do?
Much Thx....

sorry to be blunt
but go buy a good die hard battery
and pop it in yourself
and enjoy another 5 years of no problem driving
computer brain in the car does not mean it knows if the lexus dealer or you change a battery
its more worried about keeping your car running smooth without issue and learning based on your driving.

Both my RX300 and TLS are out of warranty, so I use Toyota and Honda dealers for routine service, and a really good independent technician in Pennsylvania for the big items like timing belt replacement.

It all comes down to how much longer you are going to keep your RX.
My Optima Red Top has been with me since Dec. 2004, but I've had issues recently and am looking at possibly a lightweight Braille because I am going to keep the RX for a long time and want the power of the Optima but the weight (it's 38 pounds) down to 21 or less.
I've had a good experience with a Diehard Gold series, too.

I say go with the Costco battery. I had a very minor fitment issue and needed two washers (as spacers) to get proper fit. The price is around $65-$70 I think. Others have said that it fit fine without any washers for spacing, I don't know why the difference.

Nothing beats Costco battery warranty and price. Optima is good, but it is too heavy, and it does go bad too, and costs 3x more. Both my yellow and red went bad before 3 years mark. Unless you have a big system in your car, then go with optima; otherwise go with Costco battery. Keep in mind Costco battery wont fit correctly, I dont remember if it was too high or too low, but I had to bend the oem battery bar to fit it in.

Don't know if they have Costco in your area or if you belong, but that is what I would buy. Great warranty and NO HASSLE if you need to have the battery warrantied. Most batteries are made by Johnson Controls these days, which are nothing special, but at least Costco are one of the best deals going if you like hassle free service. Costco's batteries are all 1st 3 years free replacement and then pro-rated up to 100 months I believe. They tend to only supply the most powerful battery that will fit in the area that is provided. I just bought a new battery for my F-150 and though the 540CCA is the standard battery, the only one they supply is the 850CCA at a great price, so they don't even offer you a puny battery, though that's all they charge you for.

Costco's return/warranty and pricing hard to beat. As for quality I like the Interstate Battery. Had an Optima Red Top that was okay but didn't last any longer than other batteries in my vehicles although it was the most expensive. But like most things, "your mileage may vary".
