Salim: I don't disagree - if you have the wherewithall to part it out that's the most profitable way to go - trouble is, most people don't. As to the true market value of the car - the only way to know that is to actually sell one. KBB list the trade-in value around $5000, so the dealer's offer isn't too far off. Private sale, if repaired, might get ~ $8000 but selling these cars in todays market is difficult at anything other than fire sale prices. All we ever see is asking price - we have no idea what these cars are actually selling for!

Sell the transmission,wheels, seats, doors etc. You will probably get over $3K for all of that, maybe more. Then use the carcass as a planter in your back yard, to grow pot in.
