Default passenger seatbelt

so my passenger seatbelt works fine as far as it's safety performance but it doesn't retract itself. everytime someone uses it i have to manually load it back in, it winds back up but only when i feed it, but it still works fine. anyhting i can do to make it retract on its own? or what part i need to change and how i can do so? thanks guys

Mine had the same problem. Still do but better.

I cleaned up the belt itself and the channel it rides on. Even coated it with a thin film of silicone spray.
New belt cost around $200.
Still retarcts but slow at times as you described but tolerable.

There is a fine balance between desired and undesired ... I like it as even after hours of travel the belt does not squeeze you like a boa-constrictor. I would use the velcro spiky side to scrub the pass through hook.

There is a TSB out on the seat belts retracting slowly. The 'solution' is a kit with 2 pieces of teflon-like tape that you place at the point where the belt goes through the shoulder anchor point. It worked for a few weeks for me. Would probably be better if the belts were clean, but I didn't go quite that far.

Yeah, covered under the 48 months/50,000 warranty which leaves all current owners having this problem out of luck

True, but the kit is only about $15 or so if I recall correctly. I got it through Irontoad or Sewell a few years back.

It did help some. The main problem with my belts is that they had become dirty and they didn't want to bend at the sharp angle required to go through the b-pillar anchor and down into the retractor. Just adding the resin tape made the belts retract smoother. I think that it would have made a more significant difference had I cleaned the belts as well.

Which portion has the slack and which portion is pulled? For constriction at the anchor, the slack in the belt is after the anchor and the anchor to the take up spool (behind the pillar garnish) has no slop ... just a few inches of the belt are exposed.

Dont reach for the bleach just yet. The caustic action may actually weaken the belt [to what degree I dont know]. Browse the CL detailing special interest forum.

Can you describe the condition of the belt? Do you have frays or the fiber is lifted up, material caked on etc.

For velcro strip, I used one of those cable ties provided with the chop-saw. Needless to say, there was enough wax-like build-up.

I have not applied the film on the hook as my belt is in good condition ... things are back to how they were when the RX was new. As mentioned before, I like the slightly loose take up on the belt... just personal preference.
