What is wrong with the caliper that you need to replace it? Can you just take it off and clean it out. You can get service seals.

Salim- I have rebuilt calipers in the past and just finally gave up on it. The problem being that by the time a person thinks they should replace them, or they are having problems with them, the water that inevitably is absorbed by the brake fluid accumulates (few of us replace our BF every year which is about what it would take to assure that no water were absorbed) in the bottom of the caliper cylinder. It causes rust pits, and when honed and cleaned up and a new kit installed, it will leak when it didn't before. Part of the reason is that now (with new pads) the piston seal is back at the part of the cylinder bore that has been exposed to water the longest, and henseforth has had the longest to rust. Rebuilt calipers normally get bored and a sleeve put in to deal with that pitting. At one time, many years ago, they wouldn't even rebuild calipers because of the liability if the fluid somehow leaked past the sleeve. Evidently, when all cars went to disc brakes, too much business (profit) was lost due to this policy and they found a way to bore and sleeve so that there wasn't danger of fluid leaking past. There may be some who bore oversize and use oversize parts, but the rust pitting is what precludes MOST car owners from being successful in rebuilding their own.

Good morning Tom- They used Cardone at the large gov. trans. agency that I worked for and they had a LOT of vehicles. Seemed to have good luck with them.
It at least is my favorite for OEM T/L parts. The last time I checked, they had even lowered the prices $2.-$5. from what they were when I bought, and I thought they were outstanding then!
