No its not just your luck, sounds like what happened to me with the 1999 Lexus Rx300 AWD that I bought. It was doing the weird shift thing like you were talking about. Only when the check engine light came on, which was due to a knock sensor being bad. Got the knock sensors replaced, there was one in the door of the car when I bought it, found out there was like 2 or 3 in total, so bought the other ones. Drove it back from Charlotte, where my mechanic was. The car drove like a dream. Parked it when I got home, next time I drove it got to my destination (drove great) went to back out of the driveway to leave, something popped REAL LOUD. Got it turned around going forward, it was revving real high, barely moving, when it decided to change gears it popped real loud again. Ended up having it hauled home. Here is another stupid thing NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF, the car WILL NOT free roll. Wont free roll in neutral, wont free roll backwards in reverese, and wont free roll forward in any drive gear. Youll drag flat spots in the tires before it will free roll. Any advice on that?
