2001 RX300 41,000 miles
I have a 2001 RX300 that has 41,000 miles on it and is in excellent condition with all service records. It is AWD, leather, sunroof standard model-what would you say that it is worth? I am looking at trading it in for a new RX and am getting different values for it. KBB says it is worth $10,375 excellent and $9,750 good condition. NADA on the other hand is saying $14,400 clean trade in and $13,075 avg trade in. Where should this car fall?

Yeah, I figured that when I went to the dealer and the salesman remarked "Thats one of the cleanest RXs I have seen" then came back with a offer of $9 or $10k for trade in.

Yeah, $9-$10k on trade on full sticker minus the $2500 rebate lexus has out right now. I didnt bother to throw any numbers his way on the sticker price, just wanted to see what they were thinking on my trade in.

I too say private party sale. Color might be a factor.
You need to find somebody who just totaled their RX300 and wants another one. Perhaps eBay with a $14K or $15K minimum?

Lexus is selling many of its vehicles at invoice right now - for example, you can get the IS250 for $500 under invoice if you do you homework and legwork. Take it to CarMax and see what they offer you and then see what you can get the dealer dowen to on a new car. Start at invoice and try not to budge. Do this by e-mail or telephone with the internet sales departments at several dealers.

I look at value this way, what do YOU think it's going to be worth if YOU WERE BUYING your car? If you're trading in, you're going to get stomped on the price by the dealer. They're trying to make money on the sale and the trade, so I'd be really surprised you'd get more than $10K for it. I'd say more close to 9K.
The RX300 is the 1st of 3 generations now, it's not on many people's list of SUV to get any more. I think most would have moved on to looking at the newer 2nd gen RX, so even with the low miles, on trade it won't get much, but on private sale it might, for someone that is looking for low miles.
On the flip side, if I'm buying and a 9 year old car is only 41K, I'm wondering if the thing has been sitting idle for months or years at a time, which would concern me.

Yea again sell it private party and you will get a few Gs...I bought my RX with 60k for 13k and I thought that was a good deal a year ago.
Put it on ebay/autotrader and it should sell fairly quick....then take that cash and go to the dealer and youll have a better edge on getting that sticker price down with a large amount of cash up front since they know your serious and ready to buy.
