Default Outside Mirror Shake

Recently, the driver side outside mirror started shaking (like, when on a bumpy road). The mirror itself in tight in the housing, but the housing is shaking on its pivot. You know, the shaft that it is designed to rotate on such as when tucking it in when in a tight parking space.

I think someone must have clocked it in a parking lot.

The shaking is really bothering my visual sense of serenity.

Anyone have any experience with fixing this?

TIA,

extascer

Yes, it sounds like something has broken in there. Unfortunately, these are not designed to be repaired (I don't think the parts are even available separately - only the entire mirror assembly - $$$). If I recall correctly, you access the mirror mounting screws from inside front of the the door (open the door and it's at the inside front) - a triangular black plastic panel that pops out. Only thing I don't know is if the wiring connector is actually in the door, requiring the door panel to be removed to unplug it.

Mine quivers just a little -- always has. I think it's in the mount between the mirror and the door, but not the mirror rattling within the housing. I've never known what to do about it.

I have the same issue on my driver's side mirror. I plan to get in there in the near future to deal with the issue.

I hope, as long as I can fix it.

I know I the reason it's broken now is because I did a Homer Simpson "DOH" by banging my head on it when I leaned down to pick something up.

I just changed some o-rings on my hose reel, and the old ones (I think the wall thickness is 5/32) were just sitting on the shelf in my garage, when it occurred to me that I might solve my problem with them. So I snipped one, then I rotated the driver side outside mirror fully in (toward the door handle). This lifts up the mirror housing on the shaft (sorta like a screw, I guess), creating a bit of a gap. I stretched the open o-ring between my fingers and slipped it into the gap. Then I rotated the mirror back to the normal position. There is a little bit hanging out on each side that will need to be trimmed. Viola! Shake gone.
