Default Need your help! Transmission fluid leak - 99 RX300 2WD

I checked my transmission fluid on my 99 RX300 2WD. It was a little low. I added a quart of fluid and instantly there was a quart of fluid on the pavement.

Would this be the transmission pan gasket? I don't know much about tranny's and the different seals & gaskets. The car still shifts smooth and no problems otherwise.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Are you sure the fluid made it in the pan? The dipstick tube is very narrow and it is real easy to pour too fast and have fluid running down the outside of the tube.

Yes, I used a small funnel and slowly poured the fluid in.

Did you see the spilled fluid before starting up the car?

Just a guess but maybe the refill tube got dislodged from the tranny and your oil went straight to the pavement.

Okay, I went to the parts dept at Lexus and they printed me out a schematic of the dipstick tube and the transmission fluid pan. According the Lexus the fluid flows directly down the tube and into the transmission pan. The Master Tech there advised it could be one of three things. The O-Ring Seal for the dipstick has deteriorated, the tube itself might have a crack or hole in it, or the transmission pan gasket has gone bad.

The tranny pan gasket is easy enough for me to fix in my garage. If that is the problem, I might as well clean/replace the filter, clean the pan and magnets.

My problem is if it is the dipstick tube. Does anyone have any experience with replacing the O-Ring or the tube itself? Any insight would be very helpful.

I will keep everyone posted.

I'll take a look at my dipstick tube today when I try to do my A/F sensors and see if I can help you out.

Okay, here is the update. No leak! I didn't have the funnel seated properly and it was pouring 1/2 in & 1/2 down the outside of the dipstick. That's what I get for doing it in a dimly lit parking lot!

Thanks to everyone for their input on this.
