Yep, it is the motor mount. You ca see the engine flange more clearly from the top.
I would clean that out with a degreaser and then see if more develops. Some gasket is leaking.
Do you smell oil when engine is hot?

It seems like a horse/camel-child-seat. Not too different from car-seats over here. I can not think of a reason why the hands are restrained [may be they can get injured by other objects around]. It has all the padding and lining. Even colorful play objects in the line of sight.
The other thing that intrigues me is if they place the boy face forward or backwards. Well I guess it would not matter as they are no air-bags.

Hello, I'm a first time user of this forum and would like to thank anyone in advance for their suggestions. I am looking at buying my parents 99 RX300 (AWD). They have informed me that it uses about 1 quart of oil for every 600 miles or so. That obviously concerns me. There is little to no oil leaking out the bottom, and no visible white or blue smoke out the back. So here is my question. In addition to the piston rings, what are some other possible causes of this oil loss and what sort of risk level do they pose to the engine...meaning if the oil is continually replaced are they still a major problem or just an annoyance.
Also, does anyone know what the compression levels ideally should be for each piston. I'm planning on running a compression check and need to know what to compare the readings I get to.

This thread is a bit old, but I thought that I would share my experience with this losing oil issue on my 2002 RX - I was losing about a quart of oil every 300 miles.
It turns out that the issue was the valve covers.
I'm sure that someone else can explain the technical aspect of this better than I, but according to the Lexus dealer there is some built in venting on the valve covers. When this venting becomes clogged, it forces the oil into the combustion chamber.
The valve covers apparently had a design change to reflect this issue.
The dealer wanted something like $1200 to do the repair. However, after some arguing with them about why this should be a warranty coverage or a recall since they went through a design change to correct the problem, they did the repair for the cost of parts only. It think the final bill was $400.

Probably a stuck PCV valve. I just did mine as preventative maintenance. We should probably all start changing the PCV valve regularly. It was very easy to do and mine was the screw in kind.

I know this is a bit late but thanks everyone for the tons of info. I am unfortunately not home now and won't be for another month. When I return though I plan on replacing my PCV valve as well as open the front valve cover (easier) to look for sludge. One last question. Assuming I had sludge in the engine, if I drained the oil and remove the pan could I also expect to see sludge in the bottom of the pan as well?
