Whirling Noise
I am getting a whirling noise from the rear of my SUV. Dealer checked it out said it was the tires thread design,(everything is fine nothing to worry about) if that were true why do I not hear the tires from all four corners ? Also when the truck is in the air, and I accelerate, why do I still hear the whirling noise. Could it be a lack of rear end gear oil ? I have already checked the inner and outer bearings, cv's, brake dust covers, calipers, shock upper and lower mounts and all other trailing arms, so now where do I go with this.

When the car is on a lift, and all the tires are off the ground.
If this thing keeps this crap up it will turn into an X5, I figure if the Japs can't get it right, I am sure the Germans can. Damn thing has 21K on the odo and it already has a funny noise, what a F@#$in joke. Here we go again with the dealer visits, have to start playing there stupid game again.
I think I am just going to change the oil in the rear diff carrier, to amuse myself, who knows maybe that will fix it.

If that works then your set. But if that were to be tires you would here it all the way around on the lift any way. And it would have to be some knobby tires. Di d you even change them.? Could be a bearing but i doubt it at that low milage. Other wise try a different dealer ...Lexus isn't a tin can on wheels with a prop at least not yet. Also there ore not TSBs on that problem.

Even though you checked them, it's the bearings/seals. Had a similar noise, the pitch would change in proportion to the wheel rotation speed in the passenger rear wheel.
It would be there depending on the weather conditions/temperature. Finally reproduced it with the Lexus tech in the car... he immediately knew what it was (from the sound). They ordered new parts, replaced, all is quiet
Hope this helps,
