Question What do you guys think???.........

My next door neighbor wants to sell me his 99 rx300...
He told me to make him an offer... The car has only been touched by the lexus dealer. New tranny 2 years ago.... New transfer case about 1 year ago. 130k miles. Mint conditions...
How much should i offer him for it?

Thanks in advanced for any replies/help/advice..

I honestly would probably offer him $7,000. Since he is your neighbor, you know him better and maybe you can get it lower. But i personally think $7,000 would be an excellent price.

A new transmission I can understand, but why did it need a new transfer case?

IT HAD A HUMMING NOISE AT HIGH SPEED. I JUST TOOK THIS CAR IN THE HIGHWAY AND IT FEELS LIKE A BRAND NEW TRUCK. MY NEIGHBOR WAS VERY **** ABOUT TAKING THIS CAR TO ANY OTHER SHOP OTHER THAN LEXUS DEALER.

Not knocking your new car because it sounds great. However, there is absolutely nothing necessarily positive about taking it to a Lexus dealer. They are not better or worse than any other dealer although in my persoanl experience they are MUCH worse. I have found two Lexus dealers to be quite dishonest and incompetent. In the future, you will probably do much better in terms of price and quality if you find a reputable indie shop.

I agree with artbuc,,,,have had terrible service from Lexus of Roseville California....Everytime they touched my vehicle it got worse, (bolts missing, hardware not attached, poor diagnostics)

My experience exactly plus much worse and I am not talking about just a few
examples. I could write a small novel and it would be pretty ugly. One of my favorites is the leaky rear CV boot cover caper although the power antenna motor replacement was a doozy. But I'll never forget the blower motor replacement after which I could not close the glove box door. I could go on for hours. I can laugh about it now but I wasn't so happy at the time. Fortunately I can and have done all of my own work so I only had to endure the dealerships for warranty work. Unfortunately, my LS400 was somewhat of a lemon.

PS Acura dealerships are not any better!
